Do you realize that only since the last millenium have we been able to travel the world most easily?

Do you know that majority of the breakthroughs in science and technology, medicine, the arts, and other disciplines have been discovered in the last 200 years? A majority of the world’s scientists who have ever lived are alive today. The internet and other technology has made it increasingly rapid to get information. (Daniel 12:4)

How have moral breakdown, wars and rumors of wars increased these last 25 years?

Moral breakdown, wars and rumors of wars, all are occurring before our very eyes.
2 Timothy 3:1-5

What does this all mean? What on Earth is going on? is a 6-week study on examining these events through the lens of Scripture, as well as other events that are yet to happen, and its implications for the believer.

If you knew what was going to happen in the future, wouldn’t you want to be ready?

Even if one has been a Christian since their Sunday School days or one has just accepted Christ a few days back, pursuing intimacy with God is definitely something we always need to engage in.
Ptr. Peter said as he described the exciting path of intimacy.

It was as if God silently embraced me as I entered the worship hall on that morning of August 14, 2011. This was definitely that familiar comforting feeling that I always have whenever I join the community in praise.

Heavenly music resounded in the CCF sanctuary to mark the beginning of its 27th year anniversary. The mixture of the instruments and the lyrics blended in harmony as it filled the room with joy and anticipation of the celebration.

And on this day, as we celebrate the birth of this ever-growing family of Christ-Committed Followers, the message of Senior Pastor Peter Tan-Chi spoke of something more fundamental, an essential element in a person’s pursuit of intimacy with God.

Even if one has been a Christian since their Sunday School days or one has just accepted Christ a few days back, pursuing intimacy with God is definitely something we always need to engage in.

“It is a lifetime of adventure,” Ptr. Peter said as he described the exciting path of intimacy.

And who would not feel like the most privileged entity in the universe if you know that you are close with the Creator? That the Master Orchestrator of everything is your best friend?

With this message, I got reassured that it was time to get closer to God.

“Come near to God and He will come near to you. Wash your hands you sinners and purify your hearts you double-minded.” This passage from James 4:8 is a clear invitation that God has always wanted to be close to us.

Imagine the President of the Philippines inviting me to meet with him in his office and personally asking me to be a best friend of his, simply put, I can’t imagine the flood of emotions and feelings streaming at that very moment. Multiply that a zillion times and that’s what I get when I meditate on those words. It made me feel more than extra special to be a friend of God.

Ptr. Peter noted three important points in knowing God: First, seeing God as He is; second, seeing self as you are; and third, seeing the needs of others.

Reading the Bible clearly shows how powerful our God is. How God’s angel wiped out thousands of Assyrians and saved Jerusalem (2 Chronicles 32:20-21), presenting vivid visuals of a supernatural hero in fantasy films. But what’s even more amazing is that this is more than just a fictional story—this one is real.

And when I think about God’s power, it humbles me and it makes me feel unworthy. Multiply this a zillion times again and perhaps that is what Isaiah felt when the Lord personally revealed himself to this outstanding prophet (Isaiah 6).

To make the experience of knowing God truly blissful, He places in our hearts the joy of service. Mathematical formulas can never explain the old saying “It is better to give than to receive.” But when you actually experience serving others and subtracting your resources of time, talents, and material things to add to the welfare of your fellowmen, multiplication of happiness happens.

Pursuing intimacy with God may seem like a basic knowledge for Christians but actually doing it consistently becomes the challenge. There are a lot of distractions and discouragements that we may encounter but the exciting life of worshiping the Almighty, humbling oneself, and serving others becomes a more colorful experience, easily drowning out the negativity and confusion.

It may seem simple and yet great. How God loves us sinners and how He spends time for unworthy people may seem hard to understand.

But that’s just the miracle of God’s grace. Believe it or not, it’s a fact.

It’s no secret that God is good and great. The skies declare it. Cascading waters shout it. Magnificent landscapes show it. No one in the right mind can say otherwise.

Our God, the creator of all things on this earth and on heaven above, is truly worthy of all honor and praise. He is so awesome and mighty that it would be nearly impossible to keep one’s mouth shut from singing praises to our great God.

In the past 27 hears, God has shown Himself faithful. From that first night when Ptr. Peter Tan-chi started a Bible study with a few couples in their home in Valley Golf Subdivision, to this day of a staggering number of tens of thousands of members gathering in many CCF church branches in the Philippines to celebrate His greatness, God has revealed time and time again that He can do all things and that He can surprise us more and more of His amazing works–especially when we least expect it.

Now, by God’s grace, we have 28 outreach churches all around the country from Northern Luzon to Mindanao! There are currently thousands of Dgroups and D12 leaders who meet their small groups regularly. In addition to that, God has been (and is, indeed still) working mightily in these individuals’ lives, transforming them to become the people He wants to be.

God has also opened doors for CCF to minister to private corporations and small businesses through the Market Place Ministry. He also worked His way in reaching out to government officials, the military and the police. God is causing His righteousness to shine both in the private and public sectors of our country and is causing transformation in the lives of many.

As the story goes, when the number of CCFers continue to grow, God opened doors for CCF to build a permanent headquarters–a worship and training center in Frontera Verde, Tiendesitas–a lot that was initially not for sale. In an overwhelming series of events, God moved and went before us. Since its inception, this building project was provided for and is continually being built by Him through His people. Now, we are praying that by this time next year, Lord willing, the new worship center will be finished.

Likewise, we praise God because the first building of our very own CCF Prayer Mountain in Sto. Tomas, Batangas, is done. This will serve as a place for prayer, fasting, retreats, and leadership trainings especially for our youth. The second building, which will house the conference hall and cafeteria, is presently being constructed. By His grace and Lord willing, the place will be fully operational by the end of the year.

Indeed, through the years, God has abundantly shown His goodness and greatness to CCF. He has never withheld His blessing nor will He ever do so. We can be confident that just as the sun rises on the horizon, so will God continue to go before us and do even more wonderful and amazing things that will surely go beyond anyone’s imagination and expectation.

Pursue Intimacy With God

Our knowledge of God is the most important thing about us. What we think true about Him will definitely impact our lives. John 17:3 states, “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” The word “know” used in this verse is from the Greek word, “ginosko” which can be used to describe the intimate relationship between a husband and his wife. This does not merely imply head knowledge but a personal encounter with the living God.

The Bible says that if we draw near to God, He will draw near to us (James 4:8). This just shows that God desires to be intimate with us. In fact, He said in Hosea 6:6 that if we want to please Him we must know Him. He also promises that if we seek Him with all our heart, we will find Him (Jeremiah 29:13).

Do you know the Lord? Here are three important evidences of knowing God:

You see God as He is

A high view of God sets our life circumstances in their proper places. If we have a proper view of God, we will not be rattled nor get scared when faced with difficult circumstances because we know who God is. He is almighty, sovereign, all-powerful, all-knowing and eternal.

In the year that the King Uzziah died, the prophet Isaiah had a vision of God. Amidst the chaos, he saw that God is seated on the throne, and is still in full control. His servants were seraphim. With two wings they cover their faces, with two they cover their feet, and with the other two they fly, as they call out to each other, “Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory.” This is how the mighty angels revere our holy God (ref Isaiah 6:1-3). In the same way, we should see Him as He truly is.

The truth is, we can never fully comprehend our infinite God. To know Him is a lifetime journey. The secret to knowing God is humbly acknowledging that we need to know Him more. That’s why we need to spend time with Him and meditate on His word day by day.

You see yourself as you are

When we see God’s majesty, we begin to see our sinfulness (Isaiah 6:5). He will open our eyes to see our own need and desperation. When we are intimate.with Him, we cease to be critical of others for we know that we, too, need His grace.

A common sign of not having an intimacy with God is pride. Learn from King Uzziah, who started well. As he sought the Lord, he prospered. But he became proud and forgot that his success was from God. So God took away his success and disciplined him. He had leprosy to the day of his death. (ref 2 Chronicles 26) Knowing God will also make us more prayerful, for we will realize that we constantly need His hand upon us. Those who deeply know Him are confident that God is always in control whatever the circumstance might be.

You see the need of others

Intimacy with God brings us closer to His heart. When we are intimate with Him, we will know what pleases Him and what breaks His heart. Every person is important to God and each person’s salvation is His heart-cry.

The truth is, there is life after death. Eternity can only be spent either in the presence of God (heaven) or away from Him (hell). Our choices now will impact eternity. The Bible says: “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him.” (John 3:36, NIV) Many are not aware of this reality. Intimacy with God opens our eyes to the needs of others and empowers us to serve Him. It will bring us to the point of saying “Here I am Lord, send me” (Isaiah 6:8). It will be our greatest desire to continue doing what makes Him happy even if our ministry will be difficult, if not impossible. Serving God is an overflow of a love relationship with Him. If our focus is wrong, we tend to burn out.

Do you know God? Do you really know Him? Knowing God is the most important thing about us. An intimate relationship with God causes us to have a proper view of Him, ourselves and the people around us. What is more, the impact of knowing God transcends our earthly life. It seals our eternal destiny (John 17:3). Make it your highest priority to pursue God intimately.
